Fan Theories volume four

Fan theory four:

Science fiction television programmes featuring humanoid aliens are all set in the same universe as the Culture. The difference is that these programmes portray aliens as humans would imagine them to look like. The events portrayed are after the Culture makes contact with Earth but Humans can't take there being other humans "out there" that look just like them so, in their minds collectively, aliens look a lot different.

This theory also allows for the Drakh and Vorlons to be offshoots of the Culture, or that Babylon 5 is actually anti-Culture propaganda. This reflects the policies of the two races and the mobile nature of their civilisations.

Fan theories/ Marcus Cole

Fan theory number three/four:
(theory one being http://sciencefictionshownt.blogspot.co.uk/2017/04/i-wonder-if-it-is-possible-to-explain.html)

Marcus Cole (Babylon 5) is either:
-His brother
or
-A Deep Cover agent working for Earth Force

Theory three allows for Marcus' apparently short training regime with the Rangers by assuming that Marcus didn't join the Rangers after the death of his brother. Instead, this theory assumes that he was among the first humans to be recruited by Sinclair. His psyche invented the dead brother when Marcus heard about the destruction of his home colony during his ranger training.
This theory allows for a longer, more realistic period for the character to become a Ranger.

Theory four incorporates the above somewhat, but posits that Marcus learned the Minbari language before joining the Rangers. It is possible that he visited Minbar some time after the war as a representative of his family's mining interests and learned the language there, but his online biography strongly implies he learned Minbari when he was drafted into Earth Force in the last year of the Minbari war.
Marcus could secretly have continued working for Earth Force in an intelligence gathering capacity and this led him to join the Rangers in order to spy on Amassador Sinclair or the Minbari military.

Appendix: It is conceivable that the jump gates in Babylon 5 are actually time portals. When a ship enters "hyperspace" it actually travels back to the beginning of the universe, or at least within the first hundred million years or so before the first stars and galaxies formed. When the ship returns to "normal space" it has covered a considerable distance simply because the universe has expanded in the intervening time period.

Appendix two: What if Delenn was meant to become Kosh? Evidence for this can be seen in the dress of the Minbari assassin in "The Gathering", Kosh's own apparel as viewed by Lyta Alexander when she scans "him" and Delenn's sleeve in the episode "Babylon Squared", when future Delenn and an aged Sinclair observe present Garibaldi and present Sinclair leaving Babylon 4. This also explains why Dr Kyle recognises Kosh when he opens Kosh's encounter suit and why Kosh says everyone would recognise him. Delenn could become Kosh in order to retroactively create the Vorlon race, assuming Kosh ages backward, in order to prepare for the Shadows' return.

What will happen.....

This is sort of based on ideas I have been toying with for quite a while and a prelude-if you will-to the fictional events in the television series "Babylon 5". It is quite strange to think about these things now considering hostilities between the Turkish, Russian and American governments and how George Freeman predicted a conflict between Turkey and the USA around ten years ago in his book "The Next Hundred Years". see my other blog here

In 2004 I came to the conclusion that the European Union would expand into the countries of North Africa and that Tony Blair took Britain into the invasion of Iraq in order to help facilitate the integration of Turkey into the EU. The north African nations would have access to the single market but a Trump-style militarised border would be put in place to prevent immigration from Sub-Saharan Africa.

It is possible considering this scenario that Israel would be admitted into the European Union. I am also expecting Israel to go too far by launching an attack on Iran. This leads to a nuclear conflict with Pakistan and a conventional war (albeit fought remotely with drones and satellite weapons) a decade or so later with Turkey and perhaps Japan. Pakistan would not have the range to attack the United States with nuclear weapons and most casualties would be as a result of a Chernobyl-style event due to Israel's assault on Iran's nuclear facilities. This event, in turn, provokes Pakistan who is defeated by her neighbours and bombed by the USA with conventional weaponry after launching an attack on Israel. Most of her missiles miss and land in the Mediterranean Sea or hit other countries: Cyprus, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan and Iran.

The consequences for America could be worse as it loses the support of the so-called "Red States". The southern and mid-western states secede when the federal government cuts funding to Israel and threatens it with sanctions if it retaliates against Pakistan with nuclear weapons. As a result, the USA is more like the United Territories of America consisting really of its military bases and embassies worldwide, the original thirteen colonies, California and Washington State. Not to mention unincorporated territories like Puerto Rico. As predicted by other commentators, the secessionist states become collectively known as "Jesusland". They include Alaska and Florida.

Postscript: I am not endorsing the frankly racist (not to mention statist) views Freedman has towards Amerindians and African-Americans. If you meet this guy please punch him in the face for me!

Babylon 5 is a tribute to Lord Of The Rings

Babylon 5 is a tribute to Lord Of The Rings?

Abso-fraggin'-lutley!

Rangers?
Check
World/universe saved by miniscule people no-one had previously bothered with?
Check
Devastating aftermath reflecting "The Scouring of the Shire"
Totally!
Also contains: wizards, telepaths, ancient evil, mad emperors and lost technology used for nefarious purposes.
I think Babylon 5 is a much better tribute to Lord Of The Rings than Peter Jackson could ever conceive of, simply because the Vorlons represent God, personified in Tolkien's mythology of only being able to save the world by destroying most of it and the Shadows represent the Devil or corruption personified by Morgoth, Sauron and the Ringwraiths.

Parallels between Deep Space Nine and Babylon 5

Parallels between Deep Space Nine and Babylon 5

Or, pretty much bits when the former rips off the latter.

1. The human commander of a space station is a religious leader to a particular alien race

2. The two main human characters in the pilot episode are a navy commander (as in rank as well as position) and his "sidekick", a senior non-commissioned officer*

3. Both are war veterans, with the commander being one of very few survivors of a disastrous space battle against superior alien forces. Who gave up at the last minute, thus saving Earth (hooray!)

4. A ballsy female first officer who has a somewhat tangled love life

5. An unlucky-in-love doctor/chief medical officer who is something of a lady's man

6. A life-or-death struggle for control of the station emerges during one episode between the station's occupier-commanders and a battle group sent on behalf of the stations actual builders

7. A "War in Heaven" emerges between God-like aliens for the "souls" of lesser races

8. There's a female character called Lyta

9. There's a male character, a planetary leader even, called Dukat/Dukhat

10. The station is under the command of a ranked captain the year an interstellar war breaks out

The station orbits near:

11. An "interdimensional portal" (a stable wormhole exiting in the Gamma Quadrant http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Gamma_Quadrant/ Jumpgate http://babylon5.wikia.com/wiki/Jumpgate for hyperspace http://babylon5.wikia.com/wiki/Hyperspace travel)

and

12. A seemingly innocuous planet, later found to be the home of an ancient civilisation crucial to the show's plotline

13. Aggressive aliens are introduced who can camouflage themselves but tend to avoid the use of cloaking devices on their warships

14. A major character is "interviewed" by an inquisitor, the process bordering on torture despite being carried out by an allied human in everyone's best interests

15. The station is lent a prototype cruiser enhanced with borrowed advanced alien technology during the course of the show

16. "Holo-brothels"

Plots involving

17. Interplanetary terrorism

18. The aftermath of a military occupation

19. Political intrigue

20. Racism and discrimination

21. Labour strikes

22. Prophecies
and

23. Various coups; actual, attempted and plotted by military, paramilitary and non-military organisations

*Both Miles "Chief" O'Brien
http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Miles_O'Brien
and Michael "the telepaths made me do it" Garibaldi http://babylon5.wikia.com/wiki/Michael_Garibaldi
are depicted as having the rank of "Chief Warrant Officer", although O'Brien is generally considered to be a Senior Chief Petty Officer by the fan-base
